SPRING Migrating Raptors Return
One local sign that spring has arrived in Niagara West is the return of soaring birds such as eagles, hawks, falcons and vultures. They return to the area on their spring and fall migration and are common throughout the summer months. Bald eagles were especially prominent last year (2005), with 70 sightings and the Hawkwatch group sighted about 16,500 hawks. Turkey Vultures remain the most commonly sighted soaring birds in spring.

SPRING Blossom Time
Another sure sign that spring has arrived in Niagara West. Our orchards and flowering trees are in bloom from mid April until the end of May. I've seen the trees in full blossom as early as the second week of April but some yearscan be as late as mid-May. If you're planning to come to Niagara West for a drive through the orchards, check our live webcam first, it will give you an idea of how far along the trees are.

Any season is the right season to visit one of our local wineries. There are more wineries in Niagara West than in any other part of the Niagara wine region. From small boutique wineries to larger commercial wineries, you are invited to visit, take in a tour of the wine making process and sample some of our world class wines.
